Despi

Artist Bio

Despi,

Despi may be small in stature - but with their big personality and even bigger passion for their craft, they’re (metaphorically) anything but.

Tattooing since 2017 and drawing since they could hold a pencil, Despi was constantly having their sketchbooks full of Pokémon characters confiscated by their teachers throughout their school years.

Despi’s career as an artist began at the age of 15, starting out with commissions for pencil drawings and tattoo designs, as well as selling prints of their art to friends from all across the globe.

They began their tattoo apprenticeship at a street shop at the age of 18, then moved to Venom Art two years later, where they were qualified in 2020. After 5 awesome years at Venom Art, they joined the brilliant team at Birds of Prey, and they’re very excited be in the perfect environment to take their skills to the next level. Despi also has a growing interstate client base from guest spots and conventions.

Despi finds inspiration for their art from the things that bring them joy in life - animals, nature, Japanese art, fashion and pop culture, to name a few - and Pokémon, of course.

They are very enthusiastic about tattooing in a variety of styles and learning more about them every day. Some of their favourite styles include illustrative, neo traditional, neo Japanese and stipple realism.

With a meticulous eye for detail and a strong advocacy for communication, empathy, consent and respect, Despi also strives to ensure that your session with them is a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Providing a safe space for clients of all identities, abilities and needs is held in crucial regard.
